First matches made in Rotorua
What a milestone getting to this point of making the first, Rotorua matches! This is a credit to a great team of people who began with the desire to bring Big Brothers Big Sisters to Rotorua approx three years ago.
Rotorua Coordinator, Darryl Parker says, “Last year I had the privilege of being appointed to the Coordinator role and I could then begin the work of recruiting, screening and training mentors. Now, six months later, our first matches are being made and they are great matches.”
Pictured below are Wade and Luke, the second match to be made in Rotorua.
Luke is 10 years old and lost his Dad suddenly to a brain haemorrhage three and a half years ago. Although he has great input from other family members, his Mum Lisa wanted him to have the consistent ongoing input on a weekly basis from a Big Brother. Lisa originally thought mentoring was only for troubled kids but she discovered the Kaupapa of Big Brothers Big Sisters was much broader than this.
Luke is thrilled with Wade as his Big Brother and Wade truly exemplifies the fantastic mentors we have available.
