Our Vision is that all young people achieve their potential in life.
Our Mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of young people through strong and enduring, professionally supported, mentoring relationships.
100+ Year History – Big Brothers Big Sisters began over 100 years ago and has grown into the most widely established and reputable mentoring organisation in the world.
Here in New Zealand the organisation has grown consistently over the last 10 years to the point where it is now the largest youth mentoring programme in country and the sixth largest Big Brothers Big Sisters country operation in the world.
15 locations – over 900 children. Each year, in 15 locations, over 900 young people of New Zealand’s most vulnerable children and young people aged between 6 and 181 years benefit from the support of a carefully screened and trained Big Brother or Big Sister mentor.
And we’ve only just started. There is a very real need for us to expand our organisation in order to provide mentors for the hundreds of children on our waiting lists. Our goal is to provide this vital programme wherever there is a need and for all children who need the support of a mentor.
Imagine if every child in New Zealand fulfilled his or her potential.
We need your help. Our funds come from grants, sponsorships, fundraising events and donations and we are not government funded nationally. Whether you volunteer, donate or participate with Big Brothers Big Sisters, you will change lives and enable young people to reach their potential.
Our Mentoring Programmes Work.
Research highlights the powerful, positive, lasting impact mentors have on children’s lives.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters model of mentoring has been affirmed by rigorous, ongoing external evaluation. This independent research has shown the positive relationships between youth and their Big Brothers and Big Sisters have a direct and measurable impact on children’s lives.
We’re Part of a Global Community.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Zealand is an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters International and meets their strict guidelines and standards for delivery of the programme in New Zealand. The Big Brothers Big Sisters brand is associated with excellence in service to youth, and that commitment to excellence in service delivery is shared by the NZ team.
Our organisation is a non-profit organisation funded through sponsorship, donations, and grants at both local and national level. Support from individuals, trusts and foundations, businesses, and local and central government is vital to providing mentors for children in your community. With the help of our sponsors and donors we can make sure more children have a brighter future.

We are always interested in discussing with community leaders and sponsors the needs of local communities and exploring ways to establish this world-leading programme in areas where there is a need. Please contact us at National Office to discuss this opportunity further.
We invite you to be a part of something BIG!
