Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nelson runs numerous events throughout the year for mentors and their young people and organises fundraising activities to raise funds for its youth mentoring programme. These events are listed below, along with community events in the Nelson/Tasman region that mentors and their young people might be interested in.
Children’s Day
Date: 7th July 2013
Time: 10:00 am
A free event celebrating children, supported by the Nelson City Council. Activities include face painting, train rides, bouncy castle, crafts and games. Runs 10am to 2pm at Founders Park.

Community tree planting, Tahunanui Beach
Date: 7th July 2013
Time: 10:00 am
Community planting organised by the Nelson City Council. Starts 10am by the Beach Cafe sausage sizzle and refreshments for volunteers.

Art Expo Nelson 2013

Stargazing at Cawtrhon-Atkinson observatory

Monthly stargazing evening for the public, organised by the Astronomy Section of the Nelson Science Society. Starts at 7.30pm at Clifton Terrace School, Atawhai.
Dollhouse Miniatures Show and Sale
Date: 21st July 2013
Time: 10:00 am
An exhibition of dollhouses, furniture and accessories, hosted by the Nelson Miniatures Club. Includes make-and-take activity for children.
When: July 20-21, 10am-4pm
Where: Stoke Memorial Hall

Community planting, Oyster Island
Date: 21st July 2013
Time: 10:00 am
Community planting organised by the Nelson City Council. 10-11am boat ride from Monaco boat ramp. Noon to 2pm boat returns to Monaco.
Light Nelson

Time: 6:00 pm

Big Brothers Big Sisters Nelson fundraising auction

The major fundraising event of the year for Big Brothers Big Sisters Nelson. It’s a fun night out and there are always plenty of bargains to be had. Items up for auction include art works, travel and accommodation packages, cafe and restaurant vouchers, sightseeing trips, recreational activities, home appliances, electrical goods… and the list goes on!
